Evaluation
Are you about to begin a new project, or to run a course or programme for the first time?
Do you need to find out how effective it is or to measure the difference it’s making?
How would your business benefit from real-time feedback about how to make improvements to your delivery?
What if you could learn lessons about what works and what could benefit from being changed without having to wait until you have finished delivering something?
I run impact AND process evaluations of all sizes: from the small - for example, looking at the way science is taught in two very different primary schools; to the large - such as evaluating the five-year impact of a national organisation turning over multi-millions to demonstrate its value to its funders.
I design every evaluation from scratch, advising my clients on the best techniques or approaches to choose.
I will advise you about the things you need to measure - the impact that you are trying to deliver - and how to capture it.
I use a combination of qualitative and quantitative techniques to collect the evidence I need before analysing it and triangulating it with any data or information that you may already be collecting.
I can provide you with both summative and formative feedback, giving you real-time feedback on the impact, performance and effectiveness of your project, as well as comprehensive and actionable evaluation reports at the evaluation’s end.
LifeLine Projects:
SW!TCH Minds
I delivered a three-year evaluation of a mentoring project that operated in three London Boroughs. The project was designed to support young people’s mental health and to provide them with the resilience and skills to be better able to deal with transition or life-changing events they may encounter.
I began by developing a Theory of Change for the project, setting out what the mentors would be doing, and how they wanted their work to make a difference to the lives of the young people who were participating.
Each term, I ran a series of research activities to gather data from four key groups of people: the young people taking part; teachers from their schools; the team of mentors; and representatives from the three Boroughs that commissioned the project.
I produced two interim annual reports about the programme’s impact, an additional report into the way that the programme responded to the challenges of providing in-school mentoring during the Covid-19 pandemic and a final report, published here.
STEM Learning: Bringing cutting edge science to the classroom
I carried out an evaluation of STEM Learning’s ‘Cutting Edge Programme’: a training course for schools which was created with leading scientists to support the teaching of science subjects at GCSE and A level (and equivalent qualifications in Scotland) in order to bring the latest knowledge, new contexts and practical activities to the classroom.
I examined how well the programme managed to deliver its stated aims and assessed its impact on the course participants, their students and their colleagues. I then made recommendations to further improve the delivery and impact of the programme.

National Centre for Computing Education: The effectiveness and impact of Subject Matter Experts (SME) and Computer Science Champions (CSC)
I was appointed to deliver an external and independent analysis of two of the NCCE’s methods of support for Computer Science teachers: Subject Matter Experts and Computer Science Champions. My brief was to evaluate what was and was not working for both of the programmes, alongside gathering honest and robust feedback to identify good practice they could learn from for future delivery.
My report was intended to be used internally by the programme teams responsible for managing delivery of the CSC and SME programmes. The insights and recommendations I provided have since been applied to both programmes and have resulted in changes to the way that CSCs and SMEs work and the schools they support.
